The College and Life Preparation
Jamaica Reef Survey - June 10-24, 2009
Succeeding in college is a crucial step towards succeeding in life, but along the way there are many hazards that can thwart students during their freshman year and again during their transition to adult life upon graduation. The College and Life Preparation Course can assist participants with the successful transition into the dynamic world of college student and responsible adult. Join us June 10-24, 2009 for an indispensable experience in education, life preparation, and environmental improvement. You will spend time learning, discussing, working projects, eating, sleeping, and improving your body right on the ocean in a beautiful foreign location. Your confidence level, skills, and abilities can improve as the experience unfolds for you at an unhurried pace, which will provide you a head start in college and life. Participants will also receive college credit for their participation in the College and Life Preparation Course.Anatole France said "an education isn't how much you have committed to memory, or even how much you know. It's being able to differentiate between what you know and what you don't."; in our increasingly intricate world, it can be incredibly difficult for students entering college, and their greater life as an adult, to find their way through the complexities of life decisions, be prepared for the very different expectations of the college learning process, and understand the decisions of a responsible adult. Moving from the environment of home and high school to the soaring pressures of life on one’s own and the demanding university environment; the College and Life Preparation Course allows participants to prepare for college by developing their judgment, honing their decision making skills, and increasing their educational base while experiencing life away from home in a safe and beautiful location.
The College and Life Preparation Course is designed to provide a three prong approach to the preparation of the participant:
The June 10-24, 2009 course will be held at one of the finest resorts in the Caribbean. The participants will also be learning about the local culture and conditions from people of the north shore communities.

Dr. Trish Lichau, MS, PhDFrom serving as an EMT/Community Health Aide in a floating logging camp on Prince of Wales Island in Alaska to being a licensed pilot, sometime tugboat operator, certified scuba diver and king salmon fisherman, Trish has followed a rather non-traditional path into formal education. Her after-school programs won national recognition and became the subject of the Policy Institute, Inc. research initiative on outstanding student literacy models. Trish’s formal education experiences include serving as a high school math and Spanish teacher, high school administrator, adjunct faculty at MHCC for 10 years and as an associate professor for four years at Concordia University.
