2010 Paramedic Refresher Course

 

This 32 Hour refresher course meets the intent of the NREMT and USDOT 48 Hour Paramedic Refresher Training Program, as required in Section 1 of the NREMT-P Requirements (Continuing education topical hours; Paramedic refresher may be completed by continuing education equivalent to a Refresher Course. You may count hours received in lectures and standardized courses, and must include both mandatory and flexible content); when united with completion of an 8 hour ACLS Renewal Course and an 8 hour PALS renewal Course (qualifying for 16hrs of mandatory core content).

DAY 1:           8 hrs - Airway, Breathing, Cardiology (Flexible Core Content)

0800-0815       Welcome

0815-0915       Capnography and its use for Tube Vigilance and Ventilatory Assessment (P-Provide ventilatory support for a patient) (B-Airway)

0915-1015       CPAP and BiPAP Use (P-Assess and provide care for respiratory distress in an adult patient) (B-Airway and Use oxygen delivery system components) (B-Airway)

1015-1115       Long Term Ventilatory Support and the Use of Transport Ventilators (P-Use oxygen delivery system components)

1115-1215       Advanced Airway Management – Beyond Direct Laryngoscopy Pt I (P-Provide ventilatory support for a patient)

1215-1300       Lunch (on your own)

1300-1400       Advanced Airway Management – Beyond Direct Laryngoscopy, Pt II (P-Provide ventilatory support for a patient)

1400-1500       Advanced Airway Management Lab (P-Provide ventilatory support for a patient)

1500-1600       Current Concepts in Tachyarrhythmia Treatment (Assess and provide care to a patient experiencing non-traumatic chest pain/discomfort)

1600-1700       Current concepts in the assessment and treatment of the patient experiencing chest pain  (Assess and provide care to a patient experiencing non-traumatic chest pain/discomfort)  or, Post Resuscitation Care Considerations (P-Provide post resuscitation care to a cardiac arrest patient) (B-medical)


 

DAY 2:           3 hrs – Medical Emergencies  and 5 hrs – Trauma (Mandatory Core Content)

1400-1500       Allergic Reactions, Anaphylactic Shock, and Environmental Toxins (P-Assess and provide care to a patient experiencing an allergic reaction) (B-Patient Assessment)

1500-1600       Overdose/Poisoning Patient Assessment and Care (P-Assess a patient with possible overdose)

1600-1700       Head Trauma Assessment and Care (P-Assess and provide care to a patient with suspected head trauma)

 

DAY 3:           8 hrs - Obstetrics and Pediatrics (Flexible Core Content)

0800-0900       Pediatric Respiratory Failure and Shock (P-Assess and provide care to an infant or child with respiratory                      disease or shock/hypoperfusion) or, Pediatric Head Trauma Treatment – Field to Rehab (P-Assess                       and provide care to an infant or child with trauma)

0900-1000       Trauma Assessment in the Pediatric Patient (P-Assess and provide care to an infant or child with trauma)

1000-1100       Airway Management Strategies in the Pediatric Population (P-Assess and provide care to an infant or child with respiratory distress)

1100-1200       Pediatric Airway Management Lab (P-Assess and provide care to an infant or child with respiratory distress)

1200-1300       Lunch (on your own)

1300-1400       Small Babies - Big Emergencies Pt-I (P-Provide care to the new born, Assess and provide care to an infant or                                 child with fever, Assess and provide care to an infant or child with shock/hypoperfusion)

1400-1500       Small Babies - Big Emergencies Pt-II (P-Provide care to the new born, Assess and provide care to an infant or                               child with fever, Assess and provide care to an infant or child with shock/hypoperfusion)

1500-1700       Obstetrical and Gynecological Emergencies – Identification and Treatment Strategies, as contrasted to the Normal Delivery (P-Assess and provide care for the obstetric patient) (B-Elective)

 

DAY 4:           5hrs Medical, 1 hour Trauma, 2 Hours Operational (Flexible Core Content)

0800-0900       Current Concepts in Hypothermia and Frostbite Care (P- Assess and provide care to a patient exposed to heat or cold) (B-Elective)

0900-1000       Endocrine System Emergencies (P-Provide care to a patient with a history of diabetes) (B-Medical/Behavioral)

1000-1200       Global Warming Diseases – Malaria and Dengue Fever (P-Assess and provide care to a patient with suspected communicable disease) (B-Medical/Behavioral)

1200-1300       Lunch (on your own)

1300-1400       Heat Related Syndromes and Conditions (P- Assess and provide care to a patient exposed to heat or cold)

1400-1500       Orthopedic Patient Assessment and Treatment Issues (P-Provide care to a patient with a painful, swollen, deformed extremity) (B-Trauma)

1500-1700       Medical Legal Issues and Communication with the patient (P-Flexible Core Content - Operational Tasks, Communicate with a patient while providing care) (B-Preparatory) or Rescue Priorities and Management of Water Rescue Incidents (P-Flexible Core Content - Operational Tasks) (B-Preparatory)

Paramedic Refresher - Course Registration:

(Please complete, and return with payment by 6/1/10 to ATREC Inc via fax and/or mail)

 

This 32 Hour refresher course meets the intent of the NREMT and USDOT 48 Hour Paramedic Refresher Training Program, as required in Section 1A of the NREMT Requirements (Continuing education topical hours; Paramedic refresher may be completed by continuing education equivalent to a Refresher Course. You may count hours received in lectures and standardized courses, and must include both mandatory and flexible content); when united with completion of an 8 hour ACLS Renewal Course and an 8 hour PALS renewal Course (qualifying for 8hrs of mandatory core content each).

 

If you are admitted into the EMT-Paramedic refresher course, we can make no guarantee of your ability to re-certify through National Registry or the State of Oregon. We will grant a course attendance certificate once you have completed all course hours and work successfully. Your eligibility to re-certify must be verified by you with National Registry and the State of Oregon. The course will consist of lectures, case review, scenarios, and practical.

Payment:                     $350 usd.  (Payment by check, money order, or cash to ATREC Inc on or before 6/1/10; following payment, student will be registered for the course; registration is on a first come, first served basis.  Following registration and payment, course information and classroom information will be emailed to participants.)

 

Prerequisites:            1.   Submit copy of current ACLS card and PALS or PEPP card.

                                 2.   ATREC is a non-smoking facility.

                                 3.   ATREC Inc is NOT a wheelchair accessible facility.

 

Cancellation:            ATREC Inc reserves the right to cancel this course if a minimum of eight students are not registered prior to 6/15/10.  Student cancellation notice must be received in writing 20 working days prior to course for full refund.
